Designplan has been the primary provider of lighting to UK police stations, prisons and courts, both privately and Ministry of Justice (MoJ) run for over 20 years. We have the widest range of approved standard and bespoke products available with a continual development programme to ensure all relevant standards and needs are met.
Cells have limited space and often feature only one luminaire, so custodial fittings must be versatile to fit the specification. Many of our in-cell fittings feature variable lighting levels through UK Justice Department NOMs approved rocket switches.
Some of our recommended luminaires in the custodial sector are:
- Abrams AL
- Miniquad AL
- Torino AL
- Tuscan AL

The Miniquad AL is specifically designed for custodial environments. Physical attack tests have been carried out by UK Justice Department engineers, and special tamperproof screws make them particularly suited to the tough conditions.
Based upon the classic Tuscan fitting, Uni-Cell is designed for use in police station cells and is our most robust fitting for this sector. It was developed in close cooperation with the Metropolitan Police and the MoJ and is often utilised in a version which is engineered specifically for the project.
