London Area Sales Manager 

The Role

Due to significant year on year growth which is set to continue throughout 2024 we are recruiting for an Area Sales Manager for the London region to join our team.

You will work within the London Sales Team to deliver sales growth against set annual targets within the allocated region. The role requires ensuring a clear and formulated strategy is used within our 4 Key sectors to maximise the opportunities available for Designplan. To target and expand our key client base and ensure that the Designplan message of quality, high standards and deep sector experience is communicated and delivered professionally. Your aim is to become the “wise adviser” to all of your clients and to be the manufacturer of choice in our specialist markets.

The Responsibilities

This role will require flexibility, adaptability and the desire to succeed as an individual and achieve results as part of the London team sales structure. Clear communication and collaboration is key in this role. 

In this role you will:

  • Implement sales and marketing activities to grow the revenue and profitability from the geographical area.  This includes managing lighting projects from concept / specification stage, through to securing an order either directly from a contractor or via a wholesaler.
  • Proactively plan, manage and attend appointments to existing and potential new clients.
  • Respond effectively to sales enquiries via email, phone, online and in person.
  • Manage and develop relationships with existing and new customers through planned individual account support.
  • Liaise with internal teams – i.e. Customer Service, Marketing and Technical.
  • Seek and develop new business opportunities.
  • Participate in and lead meetings/seminars/exhibitions/conferences both within and outside of your dedicated sales area when required.
  • Demonstrate sample products, launch new products and present the associated marketing collateral.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports detailing the sales activity, opportunities and market conditions.
  • Maintain accurate records on the dedicated company CRM system.
  • Attend training sessions on new products and developments.
  • Attend site visits as required, which could include, for example, visits to sites under construction, mental health institutions, rail related sites and prisons. 
  • Work collaboratively with other field based colleagues including supporting and acting as a mentor to other sales team members as required.

The Person

You will be:

  • Self –driven, results orientated, and with a positive outlook and a clear focus on high quality standards.   
  • A team orientated person with good organization and planning skills, who is capable of objectively assessing and improving their own performance. 
  • Mature in outlook, credible, determined and comfortable when dealing with senior personnel.

  • An opportunist,  naturally curious to find ways to explore and create avenues of business. 
  • A driver with a clean, current UK driving licence.
  • Willing and able to work away from home on business from time to time, i.e. attending corporate functions, exhibitions and meetings.

Customer Service Adviser

The Role

Due to our success and growth we are looking to strengthen our small, friendly and well established UK Customer Service team with the addition of a new UK Customer Service Adviser.

As a vital member of our Customer Service team you will partner with one of our four regional sales teams  to create and communicate estimates and orders for that region, answer customer enquiries and become embedded in that regional sales team. This will involve attending regional team meetings and business events away from the office and may involve an occasional overnight stay.

It’s an exciting time for the business because we are on a mission to create the optimal digital journey for our customers. The team is currently on a journey to automate many manual processes, investing in new technology to streamline the way we work.  

This team is based in Sutton, Surrey and works collaboratively with our national sales teams across the UK and our small customer service team in Germany.

The Responsibilities

  • Ownership of the customer journey through our business, from enquiry to estimate to order and into delivery and after-sales support.
  • Answer all types of customer enquiries and resolve wherever possible, taking ownership of the enquiry and taking a proactive and positive approach to customer care ensuring satisfaction.
  • Become part of one regional sales team taking a lead on loading estimates and orders onto the ERP system (Syteline) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Manage requests for remedial works to understand the cause of the issue and recommend the necessary action. 
  • Promote and maintain excellent customer relationships, adopting a customer focused approach.
  • Support the continuous improvement of Customer Service to ensure the service continues to meet and exceed customer and business needs.
  • Support the Customer Service Manager in monitoring lead times and scheduling open orders within the order book.
  • Work collaboratively with Sales, Technical Sales, Dispatch and all other relevant teams to ensure we always do the right thing for the customer, and for Designplan. 

The Person

You will have previous experience in a customer service role, recognise what excellent customer service looks like and understand best practice.

You have a passion for customer service, a keen eye for detail and a flexible approach to work, with the ability to multi-task.

We carry out varied manufacturing duties on the shop floor such as sheet metal work (cutting, folding, punching and welding), assembly work, warehousing and despatch.  We also have support roles in the office.
