Project Overview
The aim of the project was easy to define. The old fluorescent lighting needed to be replaced with a modern LED system. Because the subways are an important route for pedestrians and cyclists, better light levels were a key priority.
Throughout the project, Designplan Lighting supported the work from the first survey to the final supply of products. In addition, we worked with TfL as the end client and Marwood for order processing. This close teamwork helped ensure a smooth and efficient upgrade.
LED Lighting Solution
The lighting upgrade included a full retrofit using products from our robust Tuscan range. As a result, the team could improve performance while keeping disruption low.
Tuscan D85 LED Retrofit Gear Trays
These gear trays allowed the team to replace fluorescent lamps with efficient LEDs. Because the original housings were reused, the installation was faster and created less waste.
New Tuscan D85 Frame Kits with Opal LED Diffusers
We supplied new frame kits with opal diffusers to help reduce glare. Therefore, the lighting now feels safer, brighter and more comfortable for subway users.
In addition, this retrofit method supported sustainability goals because fewer materials needed to be replaced.
Key Benefits
80% Reduction in Energy Consumption
The switch from fluorescent to LED technology delivers major energy savings, lowering long‑term running costs for the site.
Brighter and Safer Subway Environments
Uniform, low‑glare lighting improves visibility and creates a more secure route for all users.
Efficient and Sustainable Upgrade
Retrofitting existing luminaires minimises disruption, reduces environmental impact and extends the lifespan of the infrastructure.
Project Partner Testimonial
“Working on this project with Sam and Designplan was a great pleasure. From the very outset we set out what our deliverables were for timelines and clear targets we needed to target from surveying, design and build dates for receiving the products. The whole process was carried out in a professional manner and promptly to help us achieve our milestones. Any issues or concerns would be flagged to enable us to address these where needed to still achieve our milestones. Site visits and designs were carried out in good time and when I was told they would be. Just a great company to work with and do exactly what they say.”
