LED lighting is ideal for educational environments as it eliminates the risk of distracting bad-lighting factors such as poor illumination, glare, flicker and colour imbalance.

Section 19 of the Estates Directorate technical standard STD/E/SPEC/018 sets out a range of standards custodial luminaires must comply with. Prison education blocks are flexible spaces so we recommend 500 lux at desk height as recommended by CIBSE LG5 and BS EN12464-1:2011. Vertical illuminance should also be considered.
