Gear Tray Assembly Line In HMP Fosse Way
June saw the start of a brand new endeavour for Designplan. Our new LED Gear Tray Assembly line is situated at HMP Fosse Way (formerly HMP Glen Parva). The assembly line, managed by our colleagues Magda Rzucidlo and Matt Ewen, will enable residents to learn a new trade prior to release and help them reintegrate into society with real transferable skills and required knowledge of a working assembly line.
Magda is responsible for organising the Gear Tray Assembly Line onsite, training all of the residents, and is the liason between Designplan headoffice in Sutton, and the prison.
Designplan launched this venture with Serco, the operational provider at the prison. We were fortunate enough to be invited to showcase our installation to the Lord Chancellor and Minister for Justice as they visited the prison for the grand opening in June 2023.
The Lord Chancellor spent time with our first resident trainee, as he worked on the line. They talked about the benefits of learning new skills and how this will help him as he prepares for release.
Our Sales Director, Steve Tilling, attended the Ministry of Justice Supplier Day in September. He was invited to talk about how our history of supporting this challenging sector and our manufacturing excellence has enabled us to not only supply products across the UK Custodial Estate, but to also now shape and guide the education of residents and give something back to the wider community.
