  • Designplan is proud to have collaborated with SVM Engineering Consultancy in Glasgow and Amco Giffen. We provided a variety of our luminaires for multiple applications at Anderston Station. These luminaires are designed to prioritise public safety while delivering optimal light distribution throughout the station.

Anderston Station is an underground rail station in central Glasgow. It plays an important role in the city’s transport network and serves large numbers of daily commuters. As part of a wider refurbishment programme, the station required a reliable lighting upgrade. The new lighting needed to improve safety, visibility and the overall passenger environment.

Designplan Lighting supplied luminaires suited to the demands of a busy public transport setting. These environments require robust products that perform reliably over long operating hours. Low maintenance and long service life were also key requirements.

    Lighting Challenges and Project Requirements

Rail and underground stations present several lighting challenges. For example, luminaires must operate continuously while withstanding heavy footfall and potential vandalism. In addition, lighting must support safe movement through platforms, corridors and access routes.

The project also required good glare control to maintain visual comfort. Clear and even light distribution was essential for wayfinding. As a result, all specified luminaires needed to meet strict durability and safety standards.

    Lighting Controls

Zen DALI-2 control systems, equipped with various sensors and programmed scenes, were also implemented.

These DALI-2 control systems communicate with every device on the network and can be configured to support scene setting, daylight control, and presence detection.
