  • Designplan is proud to have played a key role in the £120 million redevelopment of Glasgow Queen Street Station.

This project transformed Scotland’s third busiest station into a modern transport hub. Our team worked closely with BDP Architects to provide high-quality lighting for this spectacular gateway. The new design highlights the station’s historic Victorian train shed while creating a bright, welcoming concourse for passengers.

We supplied several specialised luminaires to meet the unique architectural demands of the project.  These products ensure uniform illumination throughout the ticket areas and general circulation spaces. Our engineers selected these luminaires for their incredible durability and impact resistance. They feature toughened glass and tamper-proof fixings to withstand high-traffic environments.

The lighting strategy also complements the station’s striking gold anodised soffit. We provided discreet, recessed solutions that minimise glare and improve passenger wayfinding. These energy-efficient LED sources significantly reduce maintenance needs and lower carbon emissions. This ensures the station remains bright and safe for the millions of people who visit each year. Our commitment to excellence helps Glasgow Queen Street serve as a proud landmark for the city. We continue to support sustainable rail travel through innovative British lighting design. To ensure easy maintenance and technology upgrades our luminaires incorporate removeable LED gear trays ensuring sustainable, future proof illumination.
