IP Rating

The IP rating refers to the level of resistance a product has to the ingress of water and particulates.

Ingress protection is identified by an IP rating.

The IP rating, governed by EN 60529, is divided into two numbers. The first number defines a product’s resistance to the ingress of particulates or foreign objects. Whereas the second refers to water resistance, varying from a few falling drops to complete immersion under pressure.

EN 602591st code number – protection against contact and foreign objects
0No protection against contact and foreign objects
1Back of the hand protection, protection against solid foreign objects with a Ø> 50mm
2Protection against access with a finger / – against solid foreign objects with a Ø> 12.5mm
3Protection against access with a tool / – against solid foreign objects > Ø from 2.5mm
4Protection against access with a wire / – against solid foreign objects with a Ø from> 1.0mm
5Complete protection against contact with live parts / against harmful internal dust deposits
6Complete protection against contact with live parts / against the ingress of dust (dust-tight)
EN 602592nd code number – protection against moisture and water
0No protection against moisture and water
1Protected against vertically falling dripping water
2Protected against dripping water falling at an angle (15 ° from the vertical)
3Protected against spray water (up to 60 ° from the vertical)
4Protected against splash water on all sides
5Protected against water jets from any angle
6Protected against strong water jets
7Protected against temporary immersion
8Protected against permanent submersion at a given depth
9Protected against close-range high pressure, high-temperature spray downs.
9KParticularly protected against close-range high pressure, high-temperature spray downs.

Checking the IP Rating of our Luminaires

In our in-house test laboratory, we subject all our products to several stringent tests.

Luminaires With a Particularly High IP Rating

These lights have at least protection class IP66.

Impact Resistance

Ingress protection goes hand-in-hand with impact resistance to ensure a luminaire can be installed in challenging environments such as a remote train station for example. To find out more click on the link below.
