AWPR/B-T bridges

North East of Scotland

A new road network, one of the largest infrastructure projects in Scotland, has been being constructed around Aberdeen and surrounding areas in the North East of Scotland.

The aim of the 58km Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/Balmedie to Tipperty (AWPR/B-T) project is to lower pollution and reduce congestion, whilst improving safety and public transport links. This long awaited new infrastructure will boost the local economy by attracting people to live and work in the region.

AWPR Construction Joint Venture

Designplan was appointed by AWPR Construction Joint Venture (comprising Balfour Beatty and Galliford Try) and its subcontractor, L&E Fowlie, to supply durable and reliable lighting for the inspection levels of two bridges – one over the River Dee and the other over the River Don. We provided 114 Tuscan and 14 Gemini luminaires inside the three spans and abutment galleries of these balanced cantilever bridges.

These incredible bridges were constructed using in situ reinforced post tensioned concrete and are designed to last 100 years. Designplan’s ethos of reducing cost of ownership, service excellence and durability ensures these lights are engineered to last. Thereby giving Aberdeen Roads Limited and Transport Scotland a well-lit environment to enter and inspect the bridges.
