HMP Parkhurst recently completed a lighting retrofit as part of a wider Ministry of Justice initiative to reduce energy use, maintenance demands, and carbon emissions across the custodial estate. The project focused on upgrading performance while avoiding the cost, disruption, and environmental impact associated with full luminaire replacement.
Existing lighting across key areas, including Houseblocks HB19 and HB20, relied on outdated fluorescent technology. While the luminaires themselves remained structurally sound, their internal components had become inefficient, unreliable, and dependent on obsolete parts. In a secure custodial environment, where maintenance access is complex and disruptive, improving reliability was as important as increasing efficiency.
