The Electrical Test is conducted to check the conductivity, resistance and electrical strength of our luminaires.

Earth Bond Conductivity Test
Tests are conducted to check the conductivity between earthed metal parts of the luminaire. A current of 10 Amps at 12 Volts a.c. is applied for 60 seconds. Compliance with the BS EN 60598-1 standard is met if the resistance of metal parts to earth does not exceed 0.5 Ohms. After 6seconds, the test equipment will generate a continuous audible sound, and show if the test has passed or failed.
Insulation Resistance Test
Tests are conducted to check the insulation resistance of the luminaire components. This is measured with a d.c. voltage of approximately 500V, 1 min after the application of the voltage. For the insulation of SELV parts of luminaires, 100V d.c. voltage is used. Compliance with the BS EN 60598-1 standard is met if the insulation resistance is no less than the values specified in Table 10.1 of BS EN 60598-1.
Electric Strength Test
Tests are conducted to check the electric strength of the luminaires. A voltage of the value specified in Table 10.2 of standard BS EN 60598-1 is applied for 1 minute across the insulation shown in that table. Compliance with the BS EN 60598-1 standard is met if no flashover or insulation breakdown occurs during the electric strength test.
Product testing is vital to ensure our luminaires remain up to our standard. To find out on other ways in which we test our luminaires, in our lab click below:
