Best Practice Advice

External Lighting

High ingress protection ratings are essential for the external lighting. To ensure longevity, and minimize costs, the paint finishes of luminaires should be highly resistant to degradation. Where restricted lines of sight exist, the lighting should be designed to help eliminate any dark spaces.

Internal lighting

Internally, the lighting must be designed to comply with very specific task requirements. These include undertaking a breathalyser test, taking fingerprints and conducting searches. See technical support for more information.

Holding Cells

Holding cells in law courts and police custody suites require vandal resistant lighting because occupants are unsupervised for the majority of their in-cell time. They can also be in an aggressive state and prone to violence. As a result, cell lighting must be able to withstand extreme physical abuse, requiring high IK ratings, and resist repeated tampering attempts.

Optimum Visual Comfort

Designplan luminaires incorporate the latest optical designs for the highest efficiency and optimum visual comfort. Illumination in directly adjacent areas should also be taken into account to create a comfortable transition between spaces. Controls can be used to ensure that the lighting is energised only as required.

Emergency lighting

Emergency lighting will need to be specified in certain areas. In addition, easy maintenance and quick and simple LED upgrades are vital.
