The Pendulum Test

Our pendulum test is used to define the IK rating of a product further to BS EN 62262. We use this test to measure an impact of up to 20 Joules of energy (IK10).

The pendulum test is used to define the IK rating of a product further to BS EN 62262.

A weight, known as a hammer, is attached to a pendulum which is positioned opposite to the luminaire. Different weights and drop heights are used to generate a specific level of energy, measured in Joules.

We strive to avoid rebounds and secondary impacts with the test performed 3 times. The surface of the luminaire is examined before each impact to ensure that there is no damage. Compliance is met if there is no access to live parts.

Our pendulum hammer tests up to IK10 (20 Joules).
