The drop test is used to define the IK rating of a product further to BS EN 62262. Our especially designed drop test rig tests our luminaires from IK11 (50 joules) all the way up to IK20 (250 joules).
A 10 kg weight, known as a hammer, is attached to a drop bar which is positioned above the luminaire. Different heights are used to generate a specific level of energy, measured in Joules.
Further to releasing the drop bar, we strive to avoid rebounds and secondary impacts with the test performed 3 times. The surface of the luminaire is examined before each impact to ensure that there is no damage. Compliance is met if there is no access to live parts.
Please note that BS EN 62262 does not allocate codes above IK11. The following codes are extrapolated and assigned IK references by Designplan Lighting. Our especially designed drop test rig tests our luminaires from IK11 (50 joules) all the way up to IK20 (250 joules).
