Edinburgh Gateway

Edinburgh, Scotland

The £42 million Edinburgh Gateway Interchange provides transfers from the ScotRail Network, directly onto Edinburgh Trams for travel to Edinburgh Airport. It is an important step to a fully integrated transport system for the Edinburgh region.

Designplan were appointed by WSP to supply the lighting throughout the transport hub to ensure safe wayfinding and orientation. The lighting needed to be hassle free and low maintenance to ensure minimal disruption. All selected products have removable gear trays, allowing efficient sustainable upgrades.

The contemporary Zelos Wall Max was chosen to illuminate the ticket halls, stairways, escalators and the outside covered concourse. The wide luminance of this fitting allowed fewer lighting points and reduced energy consumption.

Installed along the station platforms, the Mission was chosen for its good light distribution and streamline design. The Quadratum was a perfect choice for the ticket office and subsurface rail walkways. This ceiling mounted luminaire, modelled on the size of a ceiling tile ensures easy fitting. Its IP65 rating prevents the ingress of dust and moisture; a frequent issue in this tough environment.
