As part of the Government’s investment in creating 20,000 new modern and innovative prison places with a view to truly rehabilitating prisoners, a brand-new resettlement prison in Leicester was constructed during 2022/23, HMP Fosse Way.
HMP Fosse Way is a Cat C resettlement prison, designed to house around 1,700 prisoners. This prison is the second to be built in the UK. It was designed with education, training, and jobs for prisoners on release as its main purpose.
Designplan were selected to provide the majority of the lighting in the prison. This £2.4m project was delivered in just 9 months. The products included Unicell in the resident bedrooms, Curve VR in association areas and Monitor fittings on roof spaces and plant rooms.
Designplan are working with the Ministry of Justice to further enhance our Custodial luminaire offering. We are able to provide safe, secure and sustainable lighting on a number of large construction initiatives to ensure the UK’s custodial estate is fit for purpose, innovative and meets the needs of a growing prison population.
